Hecla Island: Meeting a Curious Fox

    Hecla Island

For our second camping trip of the year we booked a campsite at Gull Harbour Campground in Hecla Provincial Park. The weather was not looking good for the weekend of June 7 but we were determined to not let the rain ruin our fun. This was the first time we loaded the kayak up and drove a far distance with it on the roof of my vehicle. I was super nervous but really excited to take it out on Lake Winnipeg. It took a good hour to get it strapped down correctly and we made a few stops along the way to check that it was secure. All good! We…

Brokenhead Wetland Interpretive Trail: An Accessible Hike To View Manitoba’s Orchids

    Photographing the boardwalk

What to do on a sunny Saturday afternoon? Well that’s easy! How about a hike? Here’s a little blog about a lovely day trip I planned with Mr. Darcy back in June, 2019. Everything was just beginning to bloom and summer felt like it had finally arrived. It took us about 1…

There are patches of green grass starting to grow and the faint glimpse of some colour in the trees but you really need to look closely. We need a good rain fall to wash the dust away and refresh the ground. It’s that in between time when we are all waiting in anticipation for the world to come alive and burst with vibrant colours.   I go searching for signs of spring every weekend in my local parks and forests. A few weeks ago I bought some…

Otter Falls: Cold Autum Camping Trip

    Red Fox Otter Falls

Can you believe I never went camping once this summer? I couldn’t stand this fact and booked a last minute trip to Otter Falls campground in Manitoba. How would I sum it up? One word. COLD. We learned the hard way and made a list of cold weather camping tips to share so you don’t have to freeze like we did! My husband Darcy and I had never camped past the September long weekend.  We knew it was going to be cold so we packed everything! The forecast was saying it would rain for days and we replied with “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing!” We…
